EPISODE 3 - MR WISDOM

“What bringest you to my humble abode young man?”, asked Mr Wisdom.

“I have come to seek counsel”, replied Fegor.

“Counsel?”, Mr. Wisdom asked with a surprised look.

“Yes, counsel!”, said Fegor.

“Am I amazed that you have come to seek counsel from Ahithophel? No. Definitely not! Am I worried? yes! My fear is, ‘I hope I don't hang myself after this discussion’. I believe you are a bible student. So, in what way can I be of help to you, young man?”, asked Mr. Wisdom.

Fegor in less than 15 mins. explicitly communicated his purpose for coming.

“I must commend you, young man for your communication skills”, Mr. Wisdom commended Fegor. In relation to your short explanation, laying a foundation for my proposed solution, I will say that, “in my short sojourn here on earth, I found out that lazy people hate reading books 📚 and some of them think reading is easy and a waste of time. I believe you are not a part of that school of thought, or are you?”, asked Mr Wisdom.

“No, sir!”, Fegor replied.

“I would recommend three books as a prescription for this ailment of yours which I diagnose as ‘poor mentality’, a result of inadequate information which equals non-productiveness(poverty). If after reading these books and putting the laws to practice you fail, then I may conclude that you might be cursed and then would recommend that you either see a Pastor or one of your superstitious Priests, that's by the way though. And mind you, contrary to what you think which I deduced from your story, it's not your parent's fault that you failed, ‘it's your fault’. My one-time General Secretary of one of the University fellowships loved to use the term, ‘If you fail, it's your fault, and if you succeed, it's your fault. Choose which fault you want to be guilty of’. Are you with me?”, asked Mr Wisdom.

“Yes, sir!”, replied Fegor.

“Please jot down the names of the following books” 📚.
“What are you doing?”, Mr. Wisdom asked when he discovered Fegor wasn't writing.

“I'm listening to you, Sir”, replied Fegor.

“Where are your writing materials?”, Mr. Wisdom asked.

“I will write your words in the tablet of my heart”, answered Fegor.

“I can't ask you to repeat all that I have said since this discussion started. That would be impossible. So, since it's impossible, how then do you intend to remember all that has been said? It takes repetition to transfer information from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind(heart). Go get a pen and book!” demanded Mr. Wisdom.

Fegor stood confused looking up, down, and around.

“Why are you still here? What are you waiting for?”

“I do not have enough money on me”, replied Fegor.

“I believe you don't think education is cheap, you should know better because ignorance has really dealt with you. There's the saying, ‘If you want to hide Gold from a black man, the best place is to put it in a book’. A black man will prefer digging 1.2 meters(4 feet) below ground level in search of Gold but will find it difficult to read through the first ten pages of a book containing instructions on how to get it. It's a waste of time for him”, stressed Mr Wisdom.

“Go out there and buy a new pen and book and be back in less than 30 minutes”, ordered Mr Wisdom.

40 mins. later.

“I'm back!”, said exhausted Fegor.

“Welcome, back, but I'm closed for the day”, replied Mr. Wisdom.

“But you said I should…” stuttered disappointed Fegor struggling to complete a simple sentence.

“I said 30 mins. You are 10 mins. late”, replied Mr. Wisdom.

“Okay, Sir” replied Fegor.

“Are you angry?”, asked Mr Wisdom.

“No!”, replied Fegor.

“Then go home”, said Mr. Wisdom.

“I can't go home”, replied Fegor.

“Why can't you”, asked Mr Wisdom.

“I need to return back with answers”, Fegor stressed.

“A tree cannot become a forest in a day”, said Mr. Fegor.

“I know sir. But we are yet to grab the seed talkless of planting it. Besides the farmland has already been cleared”.

“You must be angry”, said Mr. Wisdom

“No sir”, I already told you.

“But you are disappointed?”, Mr. Wisdom probed further.

“Yes, I am a bit”, answered Fegor.

“Why?”, asked Mr Wisdom.

“I'm thirsty and hungry for a change”, cried Fegor.

“Since you've traveled this far like the Deer, I can't deny you water.
Please write”

1. _Think & Grow Rich_ by Napoleon Hill
2. _The Richest Man In Babylon_ by George Samuel Clason
3. _Rich Dad Poor Dad_ by Robert Kiyosaki

“These three books altogether cost not less than #10,000 naira, aside from your transport fare to the nearby village”.

“I thought you said you were thirsty and hungry”, Mr. Wisdom asked after noticing the change of mood and disappointment on Fegor's face (after hearing the amount he was to spend on the books purchase).

“I am hungry”, replied Fegor. But this is just too much for me right now.

“This is part of the cost to feed your appetite, young man. The higher the price, the greater the sacrifice. All things are possible to them that believe, I thought you were a believer”, added Mr. Wisdom.

“Okay, Sir, I believe”, replied Fegor.
This path you took, I mean you used the Scriptures, that means you have an understanding of the Scriptures. Let me ask a question then. “Please follow me, Sir”. Fegor pleaded.

“I'm all ears”, replied Mr. Wisdom.

“What will I tell them at home?”, asked Fegor.

“Everything you’ve received here, the ones you can remember”, replied Mr. Wisdom.

“Have you come across the portion of the Bible where it says, ‘God provides bread for the eater and seed for the sower’?”, asked Fegor.

“I know where you are coming from and understand where you are headed”.

LABARINA

```LABARINA
Successful people do the things that unsuccessful people are unwilling to do.
It ’s said that an aid group in
South Africa once wrote to missionary and explorer David Livingstone, asking, “Have you found a good road towhere you are? If so, we want to know how to send
other men to join you. ”
Livingstone replied, “If you
have men who will come only if they know there is a good road, I don ’t want them.
I want men who will come even if there is no road at all.
 ”That ’s what top leaders want from the people working for them: they want individuals who are willing to do what others won ’t.
OIL CITY EP 4
TOSAN ’S NARRATION
Tosan, a bunker into illegal fractional distillation of oil started with what made him join the business. He complained that the load of catering for his needs was just too heavy for his mum as his dad was lost and yet to be found. He explained that his needs and wants were increasing the older he got, and his mum couldn’t meet his expectations with her low income and low standard of living. He complained about a few
leaders who promised to give him a job, “they prefer hiring you as their thugs, endangering your life while their children are flown abroad; they give to you, so you will come back for more, they never want your progress because they are afraid you will get richer than them. All they want is for you to be their slaves forever”. I can’t stoop low to being a gate man, waiter or errand boy, he replied when asked if he went job hunting. “What do you think girls will say when they see a big boy like me doing miserable jobs like that?”, he added. After giving his stance on education in Nigeria which he felt was a waste of time, he expressed his frustration about the Police being on the tail of street boys trying to earn a living but ignoring leaders who they knew obtained their wealth illegally. "Corruption like a cankerworm has eaten deep into the Police force and the government is to blame for this", replied Barrister Akomire. Lack of payment of salaries has encouraged Police officers to accept the foolish choice of teaming up with criminals for money and also for fear of their lives because these criminals have better ammunitions compared to those of the Policemen. She concluded with, “Patriotism is now seen as foolishness with personal interest now placed ahead of national interest”. Urged by Barrister Akomire to head to the real story, Tosan began narrating:
“After, I [Tosan] and my friends joined the business, we began to blossom. While some envied us, others like Ovie wanted to be part of us. Ovie, like super glue, stuck to us, bugged us like bed bug and interrupted our in-take of oxygen [no space to breath]. His eye-service was out of this world; he washed our clothes, filled our drums with water, swept our environment, and went on errands we didn’t ask him to. He even got beaten defending us while arguing with friends. He was also a great liar, he went as far as lying that his mother was ill and needed money for her treatment. His aim was to make a living for himself, he wasn’t the lazy begging type. After much pressure, (although warned by his mum to stay away from him), we felt pity for him and came to an agreement to make him a part of us. After two weeks, the sheep-like Ovie we knew incredibly grew into a Wolf. At first, he was a plus, but when his hunger grew like an unfed lion, it became a reason for thought and for immediate measures to be taken. He wanted more, and before we knew it, he wasn’t a part of our team anymore; he relocated to where we feared the most, “Cooking base”. This is the heart of the bunkering and those who work there are always naked incase of fire emergency. We turned his enemies the moment we advised against it. He called us 'enemies of progress' and when his success in a short time was compared with ours, he simply said, “Overtaking Is Allowed”. He made times five of what we made from the supplies, and as humans, we envied his success. After we had a quarrel with some of the boys at the site who called us cowards and errand boys, comparing us to Ovie, and also saw that the young men in the community shifted their attention and respect to Ovie, we made up our minds to switch and aim bigger but were still afraid. Ebele was first to overcome fear, he, in no time earned a slot at the ‘cooking base’ but when the time came for him to begin work, he took ill and was immediately replaced by Ola [Ovie’s friend].
A day after, on our way after distribution, I and Tega heard voices and quickly we rolled our boat to the nearby creek where we had a better view. An army gun boat was raiding a nearby bunkering site. We were excited to see our competitors in trouble but our mood changed when our bunkering location was mentioned. Fear soaked our being and in haste, we started our boat and took off. We sounded the alarm first to our boss on phone but the response we got wasn’t satisfactory. He advised we calm down saying he had everything in control, stressing that there was no cause for alarm but we could sense fear in his voice and we were already pissing in our pants. Immediately we arrived the site, we sounded the alarm but the workers paid little or no attention to the news we casted, they believed the boss more than the words that came from our mouths. Not everyone exercised faith in the boss, Ovie’s friend, Ola and a couple of others wanted to leave but were persuaded especially by Ovie who called us ‘frustrated liars’ not to. ‘You can take a horse to the stream but you can’t force it to drink water’. We left them to their fate, and some minutes after we left (as we were told), the army gun boat we warned them about, showed up. Too late for “Had I Knows” as some of them wished they'd hearkened to us. While they were being ushered into the gun boat, a soldier saw a fellow colleague smoking. Surprised at his ignorance, he warned him to put away the stick of cigarette if he had no intention of roasting everyone alive.
The soldier wrongly obeyed. Fire not out completely, he threw away the stick of cigarette to where he thought was a far distance.
Unfortunately, the cigarette located a vandalized pipe and provoked an explosion. We almost took a u-turn when we heard the explosion but fear didn’t permit us. We waited somewhere around to see if we could rescue some survivors of which we actually did. We rescued Ola [Ovie’s Friend] who briefed us of all that happened and couldn’t give an account of Ovie’s whereabout. We patrolled the river all night to see if we could recover some bodies especially Ovie’s but found nothing. We were worried and found no sleep because we knew we would be held responsible if anything bad happened to him. The next day's news about the accident reached our community as bodies were recovered by the traders close to the shore. The moment we heard cries we knew we were done, the worst had happened! Ovie’s body was amongst those recovered by the traders; we were in trouble, the looks on our faces said it all. Still thinking of what to do, we heard Mama Ovie crying outside our house asking us to open up and provide her son. In no time, we were summoned to the town hall and questioned but lied our way through to freedom; however, we knew the lie wouldn’t last forever. Earlier than we expected, our little secret got threatened by a young boy named Ochuko; he excused us somewhere and to our faces he called us liars. He said he saw us when returning after net casting at the river bank the morning the accident happened. He named his price and with no argument, he followed us home to collect his package assuring us our secret was safe with him. He stressed that he was doing this because we had been nice to him and that telling the police was never an option, calling them a group of corrupt lazy folks in uniform whose only job is to oppress those they are to protect. He also apologized for billing us but explained he needed the money to bail his innocent elder brother”.
THE POLITICIAN AND THE COWHAND
LABARINA
Have you heard the
story about the young politician’s first campaign speech? He was very eager to make an impression on his audience, but when he arrived at the auditorium, he found only one man sitting there. He waited, hoping more people would show up, but none did.
Finally he said to the one man in the audience, “Look, I’m
just a young politician starting
out. Do you think I ought to deliver this speech or dismiss the meeting?”
The man thought a
moment and replied, “ Sir, I’m just a cowhand. All I know is cows. of course, I do know that if I took a load of hay down to the pasture and only one cow came up, I’d feed it!”
Principle: We cannot underestimate the value of a single person.
With the advice from the cowhand, the politician began
his speech and talked on and on for two hours as the cowhand sat expressionless.
Finally he stopped and asked the cowhand if the speech was all right.
The man said, “ Sir, I am just a cowhand and all I know is cows. of course, I do know that if I took a load of hay down to the pasture and only one cow came up, I surely wouldn’t dump the whole load on him.”
Principle: Don ’t take advantage of people.
SUMMARY OF BE A PEOPLE PERSON: EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP THROUGH EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIP by John C. Maxwell
SUMMARY OF _*BE A PEOPLE PERSON: EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP THROUGH EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIP*_ by John C. Maxwell
John Macwell’s _Be a People Person_ is a good book to help train leaders on how to handle their relationships. John Maxwell elucidates that one of the characteristics of a leader is being “people-oriented”. So, in this book, he teaches the reader how to develop this trait in their life. This book helps the reader to develop the qualities of an effective leader, understand and help people with difficult personalities, and inspire others.
In _Be a People Person: Effective Leadership Through Effective Relationships_, John C. Maxwell helps the reader to discover and develop the qualities of an effective people person. Through the book chapters which are categorized into 11, he tells the reader how to improve relationships in every aspect of life, understand and help overcome differences and personality traits that can cause friction, and inspire others to excellence and success. These chapters are
Understanding the qualities you enjoy in others
2. WHAT DRAWS OTHERS TO ME?
Understanding what people like about you and why
3. HOW TO BE CONFIDENT WITH PEOPLE
Learning to use confrontation as an opportunity to grow
10. BEING A PERSON PEOPLE TRUST
Building integrity into your relationships
11. DEVELOPING A WINNING TEAM
Learning how to help others become successful.
Through these chapters, Maxwell teaches how to feel comfortable with people and how to become a person that people will want to follow. He also shows the secret discovered when we invest in the lives of other people including loving problematic people and managing criticism sometimes. In each situation, Maxwell gives ideas so that the person who reads can be confident of achievement.
Many action steps are given by the author with the reassurance that if they are followed the reader can achieve his or her goal of becoming a people person.
Furthermore, each chapter ends with a section called “Put It to Work”. In this section, he summarizes “people principles” discussed in the chapter and gives an assignment so that the reader can put the principles into practice.
LABARINA - MY MIND
LABARINA
My main hindrance for the past few days has been the inability to stay on track. Planning has been a zero for me; I'm even yet to draft a plan for the week. Does the even reader have one? 🧐
I thought I had everything under control, only to find out that I lost control long before I even started. Inability to meet deadlines, set priorities... What I missed was strategic foresight. God help me!🥲
FATHER'S INHERITANCE
FATHER IS DESTINY
Malachi 4:5-6
WRITTEN BY OJO, SUNDAY IKPONMWONSA ORITSEMIEGBEGBEMI```
Father's Inheritance(like father, like son)
After what we would call a clash of titans, the interview was finally over as the winner between Monday and Sunday was clear. Monday the winner would be given the position of the General Manager while Sunday would unfortunately settle for Receptionist as that was the only opening available.
Before Monday was handed the document 📄, fortunately or unfortunately as we would see in the story, the Chairman of the company walked in. He(the chairman) went straight to the board members, greeted them one by one with handshakes for a job weldon, which was followed by each board member introducing the chairman to the new employees and vice versa.
Proceeding to sign the documents, the chairman asked for their full names. Sunday, the new receptionist went first, and later, Monday. But when Monday mentioned his surname (father's name), it called for further questioning from the chairman who was curious to know more about him.
After much explanations, the Chairman in disdain nodded his head as to say, no, no, no, no.
Monday and Sunday were asked to step out while the chairman had a secret meeting with the board. After the meeting, they were asked to come in and now the breaking news 🗞️.
The table was turned to the favour of Sunday with nothing left for Monday, just in a flash!
 In shock, confusion and anxiety, Monday demanded to know what transpired, he politely asked for an explanation for he was so confused. Although the board dismissed his question, the chairman overruled the board's decision.
In a bid to answer Monday's question, the chairman claimed he knew both their fathers and while Sunday's father was a good and kind man who served him well even in his poverty days, Monday's father who was the cause of his poverty was a mean authoritarian and a cheat. The chairman claimed that his encounter with Monday's father broke down his family and in the process he lost his mum. He also claimed that despite much plea, Moday's father was so intoxicated with power and wouldn't listen to them(for he wasn't the only one).
“I reached my elasticity limit”, said the Chairman, and I just wanted to say something mean to him but this quote came to mind instead, "what goes around, comes around". But immediately I said that, it was like he became more alive, and boasted that he could never be as poor as I was and also that, the money and asset he had accoumlated would suffice for his many generations to come, such that they would never beg, suffer or seek for job.
The Chairman claimed that he had forgiven Monday's father but wasn't willing to make same mistake with his son, Monday, because he believes in the saying "Like Father, Like son”.
The weather in the West is not as it is in the East. So, I wonder about the origin of the skin colors there. I won't argue that a majority is natural, but a high majority isn't. I discovered that Yoruba women like doing business a lot; they sell. You must find them selling no matter how small, while the men like acquiring skills. It's just in their nature. But the women's love for trading I'm deeply in love 😍. Meanwhile, the lazy ones among them are chronic beggers chai 💔.
LABARINA
LABARINA
‭‭James‬ ‭2:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬
[15] If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
[16] and one of you says to them, “Go in peace [with my blessing], [keep] warm and feed yourselves,” but he does not give them the necessities for the body, what good does that do?
‭‭John‬ ‭13:34‬ ‭AMP‬‬
[34] I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another.
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53:5‭-‬12‬ ‭AMP‬‬
[5] But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed. [6] All of us like sheep have gone astray, We have turned, each one, to his own way; But the Lord has caused the wickedness of us all [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing] To fall on Him [instead of us]. [7] He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth [to complain or defend Himself]; Like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before her shearers, So He did not open His mouth. [8] After oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation [His contemporaries], who [among them] concerned himself with the fact That He was cut off from the land of the living [by His death] For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke [of death] was due? [9] His grave was assigned with the wicked, But He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth. [10] Yet the Lord was willing To crush Him, causing Him to suffer; If He would give Himself as a guilt offering [an atonement for sin], He shall see His [spiritual] offspring, He shall prolong His days, And the will (good pleasure) of the Lord shall succeed and prosper in His hand. [11] As a result of the anguish of His soul, He shall see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge [of what He has accomplished] the Righteous One, My Servant, shall justify the many [making them righteous—upright before God, in right standing with Him], For He shall bear [the responsibility for] their sins. [12] Therefore, I will divide and give Him a portion with the great [kings and rulers], And He shall divide the spoils with the mighty, Because He [willingly] poured out His life to death, And was counted among the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore and took away the sin of many, And interceded [with the Father] for the transgressors.
Need I say anymore.
OIL CITY - EP 3
THE POLICE STATION
Mama Tosan was ordered at the Police station three consecutive times to go back to her seat each time she tried to lay a complaint. After waiting for almost an hour unattended to, Barrister Akomire broke the silence, she cut into the Policemen’s discussion, expressed her disgust at their behavior and demanded to see Tosan. Her demand was mocked and rejected along with an arrest threat. Unlike others, she challenged the Policemen who wondered where her knowledge and guts came from. Judging by her dressing; T-shirt on jeans trousers, she didn’t look like a Barrister. But the moment they found out who she was, they swallowed their threats and rendered ceaseless apologies.
In haste, Barrister Akomire and Mama Tosan were ushered to the cell in which Tosan was detained. A special room was provided for so they could have a one on one chat with him without a time limit.
TOSAN INTERROGATED
Left alone with Tosan and Barrister Akomire, Mama Tosan greeted Tosan with a heavy slap, pulled his ears, lamenting in her local dialect. Barrister Akomire, who was earlier given a deaf ear by Mama Tosan in her attempt to calm her, was later given full attention when she threatened to leave.
Barrister Akomire started questioning after formal introduction, advising Tosan with a Bible quote, “The truth shall set you free”. She told him to summarily narrate everything that happened. Tosan at first denied his involvement but later begged to be heard when he was prepped(by Barrister Akomire) of what awaited him at the court of law.
He narrated in pidgin, but I will translate in English for better understanding.
OGHENECARO'S BEAUTY SHOP - MRS APROKO - EP4
OGHENECARO'S SHOP - EP4
Mrs Aproko actually hit a jackpot with her storytelling. She got a total sum of #5000 naira as a result, and without hesitation, continued with her story.
The young boy from last week's message told his mum all that ensued. To his utmost displeasure, his mum's reply was a total disgrace.
"I don't see anything wrong with it. No be to sleep with me? Nor worry, no problem as long as sey the money to come”.
The young boy couldn't believe his ears that his mum would stoop so low as to want to sleep with her son for money.
Since the daily pressure from his mum became too much, he decided to tell his dad. His dad was disappointed in him at first for taking such step, but when he heard the other part of the story that concerned his wife, he fizzled. In total disbelief, he planned with his son. So, his son pretended to his mum that he was now in agreement with the idea, but insisted that they go to a hotel contrary to his mum's preferred location. Already half naked waiting for her son, the woman was shocked at who she saw when she opened the door, her husband!
Her husband got furious and sent her packing to her father's house with the belongings she brought to the hotel.
LIKE FATHER LIKE SON
 Looking through the window, I heard him speaking—sounding like a local "area boy" on a tour of the neighborhood. It took me back ...
