THE VILLAGE HOUSEMAID I

THE VILLAGE HOUSEMAID

He stood frozen in pain and agony as he watched her walk away. "Why didn’t I treat her better?" he thought. "Why didn’t I appreciate her while she was here?" The old adage echoed in his mind: you don't value what you have until you lose it. His hostility had driven her away, and now she was gone.

Who would care for their children, who had grown to love her? Regret washed over him as he replayed their final moments. "Why did I call her a villager?" he lamented. "Was I joking, or was it just anger?" He thought to himself, "Maami should've understood that I was only joking... or was I?" He winced, recalling how his mother had repeated his words to her, amplifying the hurt. His ego had stopped him from stopping her as she left.
