AGBAYA - COINED FROM OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE
ABGAYA
A child was beaten and chased around by her mother for stealing and lying on her younger brother. She always took advantage of the toddler's inability to speak, stealing and putting the blame on him, then reporting to the mother.
On this fateful day, the same incident occurred, and as usual, she put up the same act, but unfortunately for her, and fortunately for the toddler, a miracle happened. The toddler’s vocal cavity opened and for the first time, he spoke up in defense of himself. He cried, "Mama, nor b me do am o" (translated in English as "Mum, I didn't do it") and in turn pointed to his elder sister. His mum was shocked to her bones and also felt pity for her son who had been receiving whips for what he didn't do.
In response to the exposed truth, the mother descended on her daughter with whips all over. The girl managed to escape and run into the arms of an Elder who shielded her, preventing further beatings. Having discovered the details of the pressing matter, the elder expressed his disappointment in the young girl and pity for the toddler for the unjust treatment.
While he was cautioning the young girl about the dangers of stealing and lying, his phone rang.
“Hold on, please, let me answer this call”, he pleaded with the mother and daughter.
In his conversation with the caller, he claimed that he was at the bus stop, meanwhile he was at home. Immediately after he ended the call, his wife came out and asked if he had seen the money she left on the table but he claimed he didn't. After she walked back in frustrated, he turned to the mother and child with a smile and said, "Don't do what I do, do what I say”. “The money she's looking for is with me, I took it because I needed it”. Unlike you, he added, “Mine was for a good reason (both lying to the caller and the money issue) but yours has no justification”.
Unknown to him, his wife heard all he said. Standing by the door and holding the curtain in her hands, she said, "A judge guilty of the same offense he's convicting others for". Agbaya!
