APRIL FOOL

Relaxed watching the TV., Abigail heard a knock which she reluctantly reacted to when it became persistent.

“Who is that”? She cried. “Who wants to pull down my door”?.

(As she opened to see who it was, she hissed at first sight).

“So na you Vero”? she said as she walked away commanding her to shut the door behind her.

Vero shut the door in haste as she was greatly thirsty.

“If you are really thirsty, you will go into the kitchen to get some water”, Abigail said to her.

“Are you guys still dating?”, asked Vero coming from the kitchen with a glass of water in her hands.

“Which guys?” asked Abigail.

“I mean you and Frank”.

“Of course, yes. What kind of a foolish question is that”.

“Foolish question?”

“Yes, foolish question. You can see me in the house he rented and you are asking if we are still dating”, replied Abigail (irritated by Vero’s question).

“Okay o! I was only asking”, replied Vero.

Two minutes later.
(After ruminating on what ensued, Abigail turned to Vero who was glued to the TV.)

“But wait! Why did you ask that question?”

“Nothing”, Vero replied.

“You can't say nothing”.

“Yes, I can”, replied Vero angrily.

“Are you angry?” asked Abigail

“No, I'm happy”, replied Vero.

“Okay, I'm sorry for reacting that way. It was because...”

“No excuses! You are either sorry or not”, Vero interrupted Abigail.

“Okay, I'm sorry. But please, why did you ask?” Abigail tried to inquire.

“Take a look”. Vero handed over her phone to Abigail.

(Abigail in shock 😲)
“How come this, and how long?”

“It's over three days now”, replied Vero.

“And I wasn't aware?” asked Abigail

“How would you be when you refused to fix your android phone?” replied Vero

“Ahah! I see” said Abigail

“You see what?” asked Vero

“It's April 1st and I ain't your fool”, Abigail asserted smiling.

“Like really? So, what happens to the picture?” asked Vero.

“It was photoshopped”, replied Abigail.

“Everyone of them?”

“Yes, all were photoshopped”, Abigail answered.
“No show for you Vero baby. No April fool from here, I caught you”, said Abigail smiling and dancing.

“So you think I will go this far to fool you? Just give me a minute”.

(Vero searched through her phone, handed it over to Abigail, and asked her to take a look at the wedding card and a video. Abigail now convinced, bursted into tears. She was consoled by Vero and then explained that he packed some of his belongings and claimed he was going to do some giveaway. He also withdrew a huge sum of money and when asked, he was surprised how she got to know. He successfully deceived her that was going to see his people to plan for their wedding).

“No wonder he was avoiding my calls but later picked up when I used another number to call. He even sounded funny, complained about the network, and ended the call”, added Abigail.

“Such are men. But what if I tell you that all of this is not true and it's April fool”, asked Vero.

“Really?” Abigail asked as her face lightened up a little.
“Tell me it's a lie”, Abigail urged Vero.

“Look at her, and she said I can't fool her”.

“Do you mean it's not true?”, asked Abigail.

“April fool! You must be a fool to believe it's not true”, Vero said Mockingly.

“Do you joke with everything?”, Abigail asked angrily.

“I'm sorry, I was just trying to cheer you up a little”, Vero said.

(The phone buzzed, and a message came in).

Vero picked up the phone…

“You have two messages from Frank”

“Frank?”, asked Abigail as she snatched the phone from Vero.
“He sent this yesterday, how come I didn't see it?”

The first message ended with, "Know that you are a very nice lady, but I'm tired of worn-out clothes, and need a change”.

The second message read, “I forgot to include in the other message, although you know that the rent will be expiring this month. I won't be renewing it because I have relocated. Also, I sold a part of the property which is mine, so, expect the buyers to come any moment from now. Thank you and I wish you success in your endeavors”.
      Your ex-beloved, Frank.

(Abigail fainted immediately after reading the message, and Vero called out to the neighbors who joined her to revive Abigail)

FADES OUT

FADE IN.

“So, it was all a dream?”, said Abigail laying on her bed.

“What is a dream?”, asked Frank after throwing her towel on her.
“Go take your bath. Have you forgotten it's Sunday? We are late for church”, he said.

AT CHURCH.

“Today, we will be talking about COHABITATION and its dangers”, said the Sunday School teacher.

(Abigail surprised, looked at Frank seated six seats from her, and then returned her focus to the Preacher).

“Know that God hates Cohabitation”, claimed the Preacher.

(This time around, both of them looked at each other and then looked forward)
