A MIRROR TO THE SOUL

A MIRROR TO THE SOUL

"The mother's voice was trembling with anger as she confronted her 22-year-old daughter. 'What have I not done for you? I took you to the best schools, provided for all your needs, made sure you went to church...'

The daughter listened calmly, her expression unyielding. 'Go on,' she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

'Why do you choose to live this kind of life and disgrace me?' the mother continued. 'Why do you choose this path after I've tried to put you on the right one?'

The daughter raised an eyebrow. 'What am I doing that you're not guilty of?' she asked, her voice rising. 'Is it about drinking alcohol? You drink too. Is it about sleeping around? You've done that too. Is it about going to clubs? You're always at the club. Is it about smoking? You smoke too.'

The mother's face reddened as the daughter continued to list off her own vices. 'Is it about committing abortion? You've had more abortions than I can count.'

The mother's anger deflated, replaced by a sheepish expression. 'It's not about that,' she stammered.

'Then what is it about?' the daughter pressed. 'If you know the right path, why aren't you on it yourself? I learned all I'm doing from you.'

The mother's eyes dropped, unable to meet her daughter's gaze. She knew she had been caught in her own hypocrisy."
