Beatrice, Betty, and Faith sit at a small table, sipping their lattes.

BEATRICE

I'd love to meet him! He sounds so intelligent, calm, and kind.

BETTY

(smiling)

Really? Well, he's actually my brother.

BEATRICE

(surprised)

No way! You don't mean it. That's amazing!  

BETTY

(nodding)

Yeah, we're siblings. Same parents, same household.

BEATRICE

(starstruck)

Wow, that's incredible! I can't believe I'm talking to his sister!

FAITH

(sarcastically)

Oh, sure, Betty, you're his sister. But would he be proud to call you his sister?

BETTY

(defensive)

What are you insinuating?

FAITH

(accusingly)

You know exactly what I mean! Your lifestyle is a disgrace to your family! I doubt even Beatrice believes that someone as level-headed as him would be related to you.

Beatrice looks taken aback, pleading innocence with her expression.

BEATRICE

(uncomfortable)

Faith, I don't think that's fair...

FAITH

(cutting her off)

No, Beatrice, I'm just being honest. Betty's family is not well represented by her.

Betty's face falls, hurt by Faith's words.

BETTY

(quietly)

That's not true, Faith. You don't know anything about my family or me.

FAITH

(scoffs)

I know enough.

The tension between the three women is palpable.
